ABOUT
Dr. You Zhao is an acclaimed collaborative pianist and vocal coach whose international career spans Asia, North America, and Europe. A lifetime member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, she brings over fifteen years of distinguished experience to the stage and the studio. A highlight of her recent artistic achievements includes being selected from a global pool of elite pianists to participate in the 2023 SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, under the leadership of the legendary soprano Renée Fleming.
Dr. Zhao has been invited to perform at some of the world’s most prestigious summer music festivals, including the Tanglewood Music Center, the Franz Schubert Institute, and SongFest. As a sought-after collaborative artist for world-class masterclasses, she has performed under the mentorship of icons such as Yo-Yo Ma, Midori, Martin Katz, and Roger Vignoles. Her exceptional artistry was further recognized on the international stage as a finalist in the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition, a platform widely regarded as the ultimate benchmark for professional collaborative artistry.
In 2022, Dr. Zhao joined the Nashville Opera as a member of the Mary Ragland Young Artist Program. During her tenure, she served as a core collaborative artist, coordinating and leading vocalists in over seventy outreach performances at public libraries and schools, bringing the beauty of opera and classical song to diverse communities. Her versatile orchestral experience also includes serving as Principal Keyboardist for the Burbank Philharmonic and the Corona Symphony Orchestra.
In the academic sphere, Dr. Zhao has served on the faculties of the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSU Long Beach and the Department of Music at CSU Northridge, specializing in operatic, vocal, and instrumental collaboration. Her students have successfully gained admission to premier institutions such as the Eastman School of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. As a dedicated educator for young talents, she has also guided her students to consistent distinction in ABRSM examinations and top prizes in regional competitions.
